Powerhouse Racing Ends Season with Top-10 Finish @ Run-Offs.
LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. (September 30, 2009) -- The ECR Engines-powered No. 85 H2O Overdrive Corvette finished seventh in the GT-1 class at the SCCA National Championship Run-Offs on September 27, 2009 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis.
The strong finish in the very competitive 25-car field capped off a championship season for the Powerhouse Racing team. Team owner/driver Terry Giles and the Powerhouse Racing team earned their way to the Run-Offs by winning the SCCA Southeast Division GT-1 championship. Their seventh-place showing at the Run-Offs moved them to seventh place in the 2009 GT-1 national point standings out of 103 drivers who competed.
“The Powerhouse Racing Team wishes to thank ECR Engines for their diligence and expertise in providing incredible horsepower and torque under the hood this season,” said Giles. “These guys have been nothing but professional and have treated us so well - we look forward to a long and winning relationship with ECR".
The ECR-powered H2O Overdrive Corvette started 11th on the grid in an exciting 13-lap sprint for the national championship on the four-mile, 14-turn road course. Running four-wide into turn 1, Giles was shuffled back to 15th as the line he was in bunched up and the leaders broke from the field. He had moved the car back into 10th position by the next lap barking at the heels of the fourth- and fifth-place cars by the third lap. The skies over Elkhart Lake opened up mid-race, the now-wet track making for less than perfect track conditions. Avoiding a few collisions and mishaps by lapped cars, Giles fought until the checkered flag waved with seasoned Road America competitors Rick Dittman, Brain Long and the legendary "Mad" Max Lagod. He beat all three to the checkered to earn a strong seventh-place finish.
“I would also like to say a special thank you to Danny Slack and the legendary Sy Earnhardt of ECR Engines,” said Giles. “It was one of the most awesome experiences in my racing career to look over and see Sy putting the final tune on my engine before the race. It gave me goose bumps to have all of that racing heritage and experience leaning over the engine of my car. I am honored to be part of the ECR Engines family.”
Next up, the team will have the No. 85 H2O Overdrive / Base Race Fuels / Goodyear / PST / WIX Filters Corvette on display as part of RCR 40th Anniversary Celebration and Fan Day on October 22, 2009 in Welcome, NC. For more details go to: http://rcrracing.com/
